The market for SaaS will reach US$ 720 Billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of about 26%. As the market has grown, we are seeing almost all software providers switching to or at-least adding a SaaS based offering to their product line.

SaaS adoption by users is transferring most of the data that was stored locally, on to the cloud or via the cloud on to enterprise servers maintained by the SaaS provider. The direction this is all taking leads to centralisation of all data storage on the internet, through the extensive adoption of SaaS.

Customer requirement

The customer is an analytics company that works with large SaaS companies around the world. They provide the technology to rapidly, in near real-time, analyse data that is passing between the user and the SaaS company’s server. The report of the analysis needs to go to the SaaS company within 1 second.

The customer is looking to find a solution that can rapidly decrypt SSL encrypted data, pass the unencrypted data to their data analytics engine, encrypt back the data, and send it to the SaaS company’s servers. Unfortunately SSL wasn’t proving to be a good option since decrypting and encrypting SSL, from a large number of SaaS users requires lots of pre-processing SSL handshaking, making it very cumbersome to provide analytics in a second or two.

Pantherun provides a unique approach to protection with an encryption technique that encrypts and decrypts in real-time, thus an approach that could completely replace SSL, and perform in microseconds what SSL would have taken over a second to do. This Solution uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) built very efficiently and at very low cost on a chip or software, and is a first-of-its-kind implementation in the world.

All major encryption approaches today use AES or a variation of the same, as this is seen as the most secure form of encryption. Pantherun also uses AES, but the way the key is obfuscated within the packet, and the speed with which this is done, makes Pantherun unique, comparatively unbreachable and lends itself to easy adoption be it in products or in Apps or in Servers.

The fact that Pantherun uses Al to determine key obfuscation, makes our solution the only one of its kind, and the entry barrier to building something similar in real-time is high, since it requires significant know-how of communication protocols and prior experience. Thus it will be hard for the competition to emulate our approach. It instead makes sense for most technology providers to license our unique intellectual property (IP), thus every product or technology company can easily be our customer. That is why the customer chose Pantherun’s IP for adoption and did not try to build up something themselves.

The Solution

We have built our IP into a programmable chip so any hardware based on this chip can sit on the cloud and accept streams of user data, decrypt it, send it to the customer analytics engine and encrypt back and send to the cloud based server. This programmable chip is called a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip from Xilinx.AMD. This chip with our design built-in can actually enable the processing of multiple streams of data in parallel in real-time.

The architecture is as follows, where you see multiple input streams of data being processed in parallel by the Pantherun encryption engine, and all of the decryption, and encryption happens in real-time due to this parallel processing. This is how we are able to achieve microsecond performance, while handling large volumes of data.

The architecture above, shows how data flows between users of the SaaS App, via the Pantherun encryption engine, to the customer’s Analytical engine on the side, and then to the cloud based servers.
